...or to actually include some political commentary. i feel more like this guy: John McLaughlin. I'm a touch grumpy and my cheeks bulge. Well, I'm not nearly as grumpy or rude as this man.

Sarbanes
Senator Jean-Peal Sarbanes will be retiring from the Senate in 2007. (aka, this will be his last term, I don't think I wrote that very clearly.) Sarbanes is 72 and has served as a Senator since 1976. According to the Washington Post,
"A vocal critic of Republican economic and monetary policies that he said harmed the poor, Sarbanes also became a trusted behind-the-scenes adviser to a series of Senate Democratic leaders."I googled some more pictures of Sen. Sarbanes and he strikes me as man who takes great appreciation in his outfits. He has a air of elegance and refinement that is shown not only in his work but in his upkeep as well. If there's one thing you should remember about this man it is his Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 that should help alleviate us of corporate idiots like Ken Lay.
Bush's Social Security (SS) Poker Face
while I'm not completely against Bush's social security plan (although it seems at the moment that costs outweigh the means. $700 billion--or million for that matter, is a hefty amount of money.
but. two things: (1) what a face! It's the kind of facial expression that makes you say "what on earth is going on upstairs to make that kind of face?!" (2) the SS card reads: 'Protecting Our Seniors'. While I agree we should be 'protecting our seniors', a key part of any change on social security is public support. now, because the young voters are (generally) extremely more politically apathetic than older voters, it is easy for politicians for forget about the voters in that 18-24ish bracket. here's my two cents for the bush admin, or actually, for any republicans who want this new social security plan. market towards the young. don't waste time 'protecting our seniors'. the current seniors will be protected regardless of what action is taken (unless of course that action is to wipe out SS completely). the almost seniors don't have as much at stakes. if current, or rather, any, projections as to the decline of SS then the people most affected are the ones in the 18-24ish bracket. youth also (generally) tend to be more liberal. yet, give the youth a chance to gamble some money on the stocks (well, certain approved stocks that is), and maybe, just maybe, we ideological, chimerical youth will support you. same goes to the democrats. the young really aren't banking on SS. heck, most of my friends don't even remember that at some point they can actually get it. i'm not going to say to give rid of social security in the least, but if an overall is going to take place, the best supporters will not be those old and frail, but the young and energetic. in a culture where texas hold-'em is quickly becoming the new passtime, it makes complete sense to me for politicians intent on changing SS to market to the youth. after all, if we (the youth) are crazed with a card game that focuses on making as much money from gambling and taking risks, why not try gamble a bit on us? hey, maybe we'll vote for you.

Bolton -- Potential Ambassador to the UN
Well. I will give Mr. Jonh R. Bolton credit for his clothing. The tie is a very vibrant red, and the stripe in the tie isn't so bad. His oxford is a nice crisp white that brings out the vibrant tie. The suit isn't just a boring black! I love the subtle pin stripes--they add just enough detail without going overboard. So, his outfit is pretty good.
But. What on earth is going on with his hair? And that mustache?! I still haven't figured out why men insist in keeping those concentrated whiskers. (Well, some men do look good with mustaches, but they're exceptions.) I suppose the biggest problem with his hair is that his mustache & eyebrows are a nice white, while his hair is a dirty brown. I know of some instances when facial hair is a different color than head hair, but it's a little odd. He looks fine with dirty brown hair (and hey, maybe he dyes it that color), but maybe he should dye his mustache and eyebrows to match. Women know the rule that if they dye their hair blonde they better dye their rather dark-brown eyebrows blonde as well.
So, even though he's lacking a bit of congruency in hair color, he's not so bad. I suppose he looks stately and diplomat enough to be a new ambassador to the UN. At least he's not wearing cowboy boots and a hat.

condi black
Well. Robin Gahvin of the Washington Post said she looked like something out of the Matrix. I'd agree. But--overall, it's a nice outfit. (She looks like she fits on a runway, minus the hairdo.) It sends Germany the "I'm powerful so watch out" vibes. Nice job.

So it's not directly fashion related.....

Like I said, this isn't exactly fashion related... but I need to go to bed. Let's just say, Rumsfeld is unleashing his feline side. At least he isn't wearing leopard print. Word to the wise, leopard print is rarely ever okay--just avoid the fur looking clothes period.
One piece of fashion advice. Notice the bandaid on his right index finger? Always keep those visible bandaids clean and sterile looking. And if possible, try to get a bandaid that matches your personality.

A Fresh Start
So, here I am at 11:45 typing away at the computer. I was talking to a friend about the amazing concentration of very beautiful, fashionable (well, I hesitate to use that word although I am by means declaring myself any more fashionable.. at all), people in Hollywood, while our Capitol is well, not so full of very beautiful, fashionable people. But, to give credit where credit is due, the people in our government do have a very impressive and in a way beautiful intellect--and yes, I am being optimistic here.
So, every now and then when I see a particularly horrendous outfit, you can be sure that I will post both the outfit and a little thought. On the flip side, whenever I see a particularly gorgeous outfit I will give credit where credit is most due! *Beauty is not everything in life.* ... but we can all at least try to do the best we can with what we got. cuz a a simple blazer with a nice tie can be dazzling. and maybe even do wonders for a political career?
